For Archie Flores, a registered nurse from the Philippines, his journey to Canada was driven by a desire to create a better future for his daughter. Finding Purpose at GreenTree
Archie: My name is Archie Flores, and I am a support worker here at GreenTree. I arrived here on March 18, 2023, if I’m not mistaken. After a couple of months of enjoying the view and getting to know the country, I knew it was time to find work. When I stumbled upon GreenTree, it caught my interest.
I was a nurse back in the Philippines, and the healthcare industry is where I want to be here in Canada because I believe it will allow me to make a difference—touching lives, just like I always wanted to do when I first became a nurse. For me, taking care of another person is fulfilling.
Why Canada? Why Kelowna?
Archie: The main reason I decided to move to Canada was for my daughter. I know that if she is educated here, she will have better opportunities than she would in our home country. My goal is to secure a brighter future for her.
Kelowna is fantastic—what else could you ask for? You can experience a city vibe by going downtown, but at the same time, you have the serenity, the calmness, and the beautiful views. And if you need anything, it’s only 10 minutes away.
The GreenTree Work Environment
Archie: You should work at GreenTree if you have a caring heart and genuinely care for people. My co-workers have been nothing but supportive. To my surprise, I thought that being from the Philippines, I might be looked down upon because I’m new and not from here. But they made me feel not just like part of the workforce, but like part of a family.
Kelly (Program Supervisor, GreenTree): Archie, I really appreciate how diligent you are in your care for the kids. You even catch me when I make little mistakes sometimes, and I just think you are completely on top of it.
Archie: No worries—I’m just glad to do my part.

Archie: From time management to teamwork, everyone here is so friendly and accommodating. The facilities are top-notch, but for me, that’s just secondary. The real reason I’m here is to take care of people, take care of kids, and make sure I’m making a difference—for once in my life.
